Petition to clearly Label Hazardous Ingredients on Products

I would like your help. I’m the founder of Save the Oceans Inc. We create and provide solutions to the water pollution that is killing our lakes, rivers, streams and oceans. Part of the solution is clear communication about the effects and safety of cleaner and solvents. If you have read my book “How to Kill your Cleaning Staff” you will know that there is no such thing as a “Green Cleaner”, all substances have a degree of toxicity including baking soda and vinegar. If you put vinegar in an aquarium you kill the fish.
Marketers are using labeling word games to trick you into believing products are safe. The biggest con is “look we list all our ingredients on the label”. Then consumers go back to sleep thinking the product is safe when in fact many of those ingredients can and will harm you. Read my book How to Kill your Cleaning Staff chapter 8 for more information on this. To solve this problem we need to address the real issues with labeling on products and it’s actually very simple. We need to label products so people will know if it can hurt them.

In industry we use a material safety data sheets (MSDS) which lists known hazardous ingredients and their effects. On consumer products what people really want to know is simple.

Will this burn me or directly hurt my eyes, skin, nose, lungs, kidneys, etc. ?
Will it mutate me or my children in the future?
Will it break down in the environment in a reasonable time frame?
Will it contribute to giving me a disease like cancer, etc.?

Let’s apply some common sense: ALL PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW IS IF THIS STUFF WILL HURT ME? HOW DO I PROTECT AGAINST THIS SO PEOPLE OR ANIMALS OR PLANTS ARE NOT HARMED BY ACCIDENT? THE SOLUTION IS TO ANSWER YES OR NO TO THE FOUR QUESTIONS AND IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, TELL PEOPLE SO THEY CAN HANDLE THINGS SAFELY.

Toxic cleaners and solvent are already labeled in industry yet not for consumer use, in fact they are prohibited in the work place by Workman’s Compensation Board regulation G5.57 (BC, Canada) when a substitute is available. This is how we make progress. We have to make the changes in our homes and businesses one step at a time to make a difference. Some products like “paint stripper” even though it may have a “green” label could be labeled NO for questions 2,3 and 4 yet will still burn your eyes, after all its paint stripper. Translated what this means is “for heaven’s sake, just tell me already”.
Every homeowner needs to know that they can get better cleaning results, save money, protect their health and save the life of our local water ways by default. We finally have real replacements for toxic cleaners.
Please provide suggestions on what you think this type of label should look like to so we can keep making improvements. Please be a apart of the solutions. Email: info@oillift.net Website: www.Oillift.net
